Quilt Top Preparation and Other Helpful Information

Backing and batting must be 6” wider and longer than quilt top. For example, if the quilt is 60x72, the backing and batting must each measure 66x78. This is to ensure enough yardage to enable the quilt to be properly loaded onto the quilt frame.

If you have a pieced backing, it should be pieced with the fewest number of seams possible. Cut selvage from the fabric before piecing the backing together. Press seams open to reduce bulk at the seams.

Press all seams flat. If the quilt does not lay flat, the quilt will have puckers or tucks when it is quilted.

Trim all loose threads from front of quilt. Dark threads should also be trimmed from the back of the quilt top if they will show through lighter fabric.

Keep batting, backing, and quilt top separate. They are loaded on the quilt rack separately.

I have batting available for purchase.  I use Warm and Natural Cotton batting.
